SWCP Day 6 – Wonderful Respite
Was the weather god feeling a bit guilty today. After yesterdays hidiousness today was totally benign. A light wind dried out part of the track pefectly, the raging torrents became streams once again and mild temperatures made for perfect walking conditions. But woe betide any who get complacent because said climatic deity is merely bracing himself ready to fart in our general direction on the morrow, bringing a stinging blast that will cause our eyes to water. I’m looking at a forecast predicting gust of nearly 50 mph … ffs! ….
Rocky Valley, Tintagel
The average climb during the whole walk is 4600ft per day. A fair step in anyones book. The past two days have been well above average being about 5500 yesterday and more than 6750 today. My legs are already letting me know that they feel enough is enough so tomorrow’s 6800ft might just lead to a mutiny from below. As I sit here light headed from the miasma of deep heat exuding from my legs I can only console myself with the knowledge that after tomorrow there will be two days of gentle, undulating coastline all the way to St Ives.
After a wonderful night enjoying game stew and a very comfortable bed in the compaay of Sally and Roger at Red Dog bakery, tonight we are ensconced in the corner of the bar at the Port William at Trebarwith Strand. Since we’ll be 5 nights in the van after this we’ve taken a room for the night and I felt a pint of St Austell was only fitting. The good news is it’s right on the coast path so I’ll definitely start on time tomorrow.

Today I walked from Bude to Tintagel and then a bit more beyond adding a couple of miles and getting a nice psycological advantage by stealing a march on tomorrow’s walk. The distance today was about 24 miles so I’m now at 148 miles after 6 days.
