SWCP Day 10 – Hard Going in the Cornish Wild West
The guide book says that the walk from St Ives to Pendeen Head is hard going and they don’t lie. A very rocky, muddy, marshy path, made even worse by recent rain, and ongoing squalls meant I had to pick every foot placement and progress was slow. However, by way of compensation this part of the coast is remote, wild, rough and generally awe inspiring. Despite the odd house and village it feels miles from anywhere.
The wind blew fiercely at times coming directly off the Atlantic and straight into my face. Hopefully, if it has to keep blowing at all (and it looks like it will), it’ll continue to blow from the west and help me along the south coast.
They do say that the light in St Ives is unique and it certainly was early this morning.

No time to linger though as I had another 17 miles to cover before the end of today at Cape Cornwall and a celebratory Christmas hot chocolate and piece of stollen in the camper van.
